Around 2001 I walked on my first glacier. I had shot glaciers 10 years earlier but could not imagine how amazing they were to walk on. Add high winds and suddenly I was offered a fantastic new photo opportunity in the form of leaves blown onto the ice. Because the leaves are darker, (attracting more heat) they slowly melt into the ice. Fungus also attacks the leaf until you are sometimes left with incredible patterns, ice colours, defracted light from ice crystals. I can't wait to undertake my next ice walk!

Plant in Ice - Shot in 2006 at 5,000 metres, Peru. We were driving to our next adventure base camp when I spotted an amazing frozen waterfall. We explored this for some time and my favourite image from the encounter was this image.

Leaf on Ice - Shot in 2007 on a glacier in Alaska, USA. The ice is hundreds, sometimes thousands of years old. The glacier creates its own mini weather system and wind is a part of it. Leaves from near by trees are whipped away and land on the ice. They are darker and so melt into the ice due to being warmer. Fungus and mold still manages to survive and rot away the plant matter over time. I love the patterns and colours!
